DIS TOO MUCH - Drum Teacher Reacts to Pentatonix Royals by Lorde
Hello! In today's video, we are going to be reacting to the one and only Pentatonix once more and this time, it's going to be their cover of Royals! I'm going to be honest here, this one was rough for me. I was honestly in sensory overload as I was watching this one and was so disappointed in the editing room while listening back because I realized that I missed so much more than what I thought while doing this video! But alas, as is the PTX curse. It's impossible to really get everything in on one sitting!
For those of you that don't know, this video will be covering not just a reaction to what I'm watching but I'll be talking about the things that I really enjoy about what the featured artist is doing. This can range from how they have composed their music from player to player if it's a band, or the drummer himself; and what I think they're doing really well technically as well as musically! I'll also do my best to convey and educate on the things that pop out to me so that we can all appreciate the artist and what they are doing! Of course, there's only so much that can be covered in a short UA-cam video so there are bound to be things that I've missed so bear with me! And now, time for the mandatory disclaimer!
NOTE:
This is going to be a reaction and analysis of the song meaning that I will be pausing the song a lot to give my thoughts, reactions and analysis so if you are here to just listen to the song with no meaningful feedback, this is not the video for you. Stay happy and healthy!
Thank you so much for stopping by and watching this video, I hope that you enjoy it!

Hello everyone! As many of you already know, Joey Jordison passed away not too long ago. He was probably best known as the drum set player for the very popular band Slipknot and he filled the roll well. I felt that for this tribute video, I wanted to focus solely on Joey without anything else. This video, while short, does a good job of showcasing some of Joey's immense talents and even though ...

Great analysis! Those volume swells Alex is doing with his feet is a lot harder than many people realize. It takes precise timing. If you dont do it right, it sounds terrible. He does this in many songs and as an axe man I'll tell you they are harder than they look.

I come back to your reaction every few months to appreciate your succinct ear on the percussion of Neil, especially at the opening. No other reactor points out the different sounds that Neil uses. Unfortunately, toward the latter tours Neil did use sequencers to emulate many of the wonderful sounds that he formerly brought about manually. So thank you.

In a tux! Technically very clean. Self taught. Fastest snare rolls. Doesn’t read music, just rehearses and gets the feel for the chart and the band. Also a perfectionist, he wants his band to be as clean with the technique as he is. Buddy Rich is also a black belt in karate. This time of his career this solo is more colorful and arranged beautifully than when he was younger just showing off his technique.

I saw him live in a small town (Aberdeen about 80,000 people) in Scotland in 1986. He toured with his band 9 months per year every year. He toured EVERYWHERE not just the big venues, all the smaller towns and cities too. He got a standing ovation and gave an encore! The first second you entered and heard him play it was astounding. The closest anyone has got to describing it is he was like a 'one man orchestra'! You may think with all the tapes you have seen his 'repertoire'. True he did things live as on tape but he did a few dazzling moves I have never seen since! He did this stunt where like a gunshot out of the blue, without warning, he whipped, twisted around to the right in playing a roll/ fill across the tom's and finishing on the floor tom. It was too fast to see! It was a blur. The only reason you knew he had reached the floor tom was the evidence of the sound of it!

Buddy Rich was a good player, teacher and innovator. It will be interesting to see the accomplishments of younger drummers, who will obviously play, as good or better than he did in the normal course of increased skill, and development.
